Ep.72: Emily Pailthorpe

Talking Classical Podcast - A podcast by Annabelle Lee

Categories:

Emily Pailthorpe is an oboist who has recently trained as a psychotherapist and completed a Master's in counselling. I spoke to Emily in June when we talked about these two aspects of oboe playing and psychotherapy, and how both areas relate to each other. This led us to talk about a range of topics such as the healing power of music, the power of breathwork, and two pieces that Emily has recorded: Britten's Six Metamorphoses after Ovid and an instrumental reinterpretation of Vaughan Williams's great art song, Silent Noon, works which speak to the psyche and the great emotive power of music.
